Super Bowl a Super Bust
Adjectives to describe this years Super Bowl:
Boring
Sleeper
Dull
Lackluster
This years Super Bowl between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Seattle Seahawks was the worst Super Bowl in recent memory. Not only was the game poorly played by both teams, the officials were involved way too much on crucial plays.
I now have to put up with the celebration of all these Steelers fans in Findlay, Ohio. What a shame. I would give credit where it is due, but I honestly think the officiating gave the game to the Steelers.
Ben Worthlessburger's (only way I can spell his name) touchdown was too close to overrule, but what in the hell was the line judge doing. He ran in from the sideline signaling 4th down and changed is mind midstream to a touchdown. If that is not indecisive then I don't know what is.
The phantom pass interference call on Seattle's touchdown called back due to penalty was just that, phantom. No separation was created, no penalty, end of story.
The holding call that negated Seattle's first and goal from the 1 yeard line could be called holding only if blocking the opponent with your hands is illegal. I saw more blatant holding not called at least 4 times in the game alone.
Matt Hasselback's defensive block below the knees on a tackle, I repeat on a tackle???? This may have been the worst call in the history of the NFL, ranking next to Tom Brady and the Tuck Rule. At least there was a decent explanation for that call. This one, a 15 yard personal foul for blocking on defense, given to a guy making a tackle. See, in my limited knowledge of football, a guy on defense is trying to tackle the offensive player with the ball, not block the player with the ball. If tackling below the knees were illegal then Jerome Bettis, the man of 300 pound frame (listed at 255 but we all know that is a lie), would never be tackled.
I agree that I may be a bit biased against the Steelers, but I am not the only one who feels that this game was handed to the Steelers. Check out the links below:

This will be a season for all Steelers fans to remember. The beat the Bengals because Carson Palmers knee was mangled by Kimo. The beat the Colts because Peyton Manning is a Perennial Playoff Choke. Jake the Snake (Fake, Mistake, etc..) is all I have to say about the Denver game, and the Super Bowl was given to them by officiating, well maybe not given to them. If the game was called fairly the Steelers still may have won, but we will never know.
But hey, those commercials were really good.

The Steelers would have beaten the Bengals regardless. if you assume that just because the Bengals have on long play while Carson is in the game that they would ahve continued to just pass it 50 yards at a time the rest of the game, you apperently don't watch the Steelers very often.
Peyton Manning choked because the Steelrs made him. lets not forget that the Steelers defensive coordinator is the best in the game.
The Broncos were the best team the Steelers faced all year.
The Seahawks sucked. Just because there were some calls that went the other way, everyone once again assumes that they would have crushed the Steelers. the Steelers would ahve pulled out the victory without the officating. Pittsburgh has played to the level of their opponents all season. They sucked in this game, again playing to the level of thier opponents. The Defense kept them out of the endzone. That is how you win championships. Defense.
the Bengals had no defense. The Colts had no defense. The Broncos had a defense, just not as good as the black and gold.
the Seahawks defesne was good. That is why they were Chamions, NFC Champions. The NFC Champions would have lost to any of the AFC playoff teams.
I hope this is the end of football discussion until next year. i really don't want to go through all of this. I have kept my mouth shut the whole season.
It appears that I struck a cord there. It all comes down to the point that no one knows what would have happened in the Bengals game or the Seahawks if not for the instances that occurred. I never said that the Bengals would have won that game and I did say that the Steelers might have still won the Super Bore. I was just mentioning the fact that the Steelers had a great deal of help in making it through the playoffs. I do admit they were hosed against Indy by the officiating.
I must say that the officating did a better job of keeping Seattle out of the end zone than the Pittsburgh defense.
In the end the Steelers are still gonna be Super Bowl XL champs and I'm going to have to hear about it for the next 12 months. I am capable of dealing with this (I am a Bengals fan after all and have suffered for years), but the fact remains the Steelers had help in becoming champions. Until next year the debate will rage on.
